When will the airline industry recover?

Robert H asked:

I am considering a career as an airline pilot. Every day on the news there is something regarding pilots being layed off and fuel prices forcing companies into bankruptcy. Hearing of these things is really discouraging me but the way I see it is that people will always need to fly so the airline industry can’t disappear. When do you think the airline industry will begin to blossom again?

Do Airline pilots need to know how to swim?

Mr Quiet asked:

I was reading on the Qantas Airline pilot application they ask a question can you swim 50 meters fully clothed and tread water after that for 3 minutes! Do you think if you said I can’t swim they would consider my application? If they don’t could I sue them for discrimination?

I wish to do a commercial pilot’s license course, but I would like to get sponsorship from an airline prior to starting it. How do I?

Do you recommend any courses preferably UK based, but don’t mind where, that are extremely good for beginners?

I am only interested in becoming a jet pilot. I do not intend to fly prop aircraft for a commuter airline. I want to do the real deal. Does anyone have true information which may be helpful to me in pursuing this carreer?
