What should I pack to eat during my flights ?
FlightsK B asked:
With all the restrictions on what you can bring on flights as carry-on, i’m not sure what kind of sandwiches I can take on. Any suggestions ? My flights will be for atleast 4 hours both ways.

Put everything in zip lock bags and put them in your carry on to be X-rayed at check in. Bring enough snacks that could carry you through a serious delay in flight.

With your flight only being a short 4 hours you probably won’t need to carry much to eat but here are some suggestions for you to consider - remember often meals are provided on board; on some airlines snacks (soup, sandwiches etc) may be purchased on board. If you do not have a supplied meal and do not want to purchase how about trying the following:
Chicken breast with a topping of chopped tomatoes and fresh basil or a cucumber salad. Pack in a plastic food container and take along a plastic knife and fork.
Alternatively I would suggest a crusty baquette with cured meat (salami or proscuitto since they don’t require refrigeration) and add some sliced hard cheese and/or some olives if you like them. You could easily pack this into a small sealable plastic bag.
Fruit also travels well and is light and fresh. I would avoid bananas (see next paragraph) or anything messy eg strawberries. If you are taking apples etc take a small bag for disposal of the pips and cores. Nuts and dried fruits are good standbuys.
Remember to be considerate of the other passengers - don’t bring anything that may cause discomfort to someone else eg anything containing perhaps lots of garlic or onion or chillies - or banana!
Water or fruit juice is your best option for drinking. Tea, coffee, alcohol are not particularly recommended.
Drinks can be purchased on board (if they are not supplied as part of the flight) or in the secure area before boarding.
Have a wonderful flight.

On most flights they provide lunch for free. Or you might have to pay for it.
What airline are you flying with?

There aren’t any restrictions on sandwiches, so don’t worry about that. What you should consider, though, is how well whatever sandwich you choose to make will travel. For example, a sandwich that is really messy and can fall apart easily (like a tuna salad, for example) is no good. Sandwiches that smell (egg salad) are also a really bad idea - you will stink up your row, and also your bag.
I travel a lot, but I’ve never brought a sandwich. I usually bring a bagel and cream cheese and dried fruit or regular fruit. Grapes travel well (just make sure you don’t smush them at the bottom of your bag) and dried fruit is really easy to carry around.
