How and when can I get the cheapest flights to Russia?

I would like to take a trip to Russia probably in late August. This seems to be the most expensive time to travel there. Is it really or do the flights get cheaper as the date gets closer? I will be visiting a friend who lives in Irkutsk, but she may be able to meet up with me in Moscow first. So, my layover in Moscow doesn’t neccessarily have to be short.

   take the shortest flights on an SR 71 Blackbird they fly there everyday .. on reconnaissance missons..

   Russian National passenger carrier is Aeroflot. So far, it has been regulary making promotions, mostly seasoned one (such as Winter 07, Spring 07, Summer 07, Fall 07). The tickets sold while the promotions are much chieper, but a lot of restrictions apply. If you are interested, just take a look at the following website in May, there could be some promotions from your destination for August. If you choose to buy it, you should choose the fixed date and observe the restrictions and buy within a certain period in advance. Hope this will help you.
