Can an employer deduct airfare from my paycheck if I give a one week notice?
Airfaresltlqueen123 asked:
My son travels with his job. He gave his employer a 1 week notice and the employer wants to deduct the cost of the airfare for the next job he was suppose to be going on in 2 weeks. Can he make my son pay him for this airfare?

Only if it was in a contract upon his hiring. Otherwise, theoretically, you’d lose a lot of money WHENEVER you left a travelling job. Even if he gave one MONTH notice, any flights he was already booked for were already paid for, so would those come out as well? Flights have to be booked far in advance, and God forbid, if they booked him FIVE flights, they’d be taking his whole paycheck! And how can your son be sure that they are taking out what they actually paid for the ticket? Most corporations purchase airfare at wholesale prices (we’re talking less than $100 roundtrip, in some cases) so if they’re taking a lot out of his paycheck, ask to see proof that THEY paid that much for the ticket. You don’t want them charging him out of spite. I don’t think it’s legal for them to charge your son for the flight. Corporations pay for airfare insurance for that reason… in case they need to cancel! I would talk to a lawyer if you can afford it, and the better business bureau if you can’t. People say the better business bureau doesn’t do much, but that’s simply not true… they got me out of a complicated gym membership contract in just two weeks, so they move pretty fast. Good luck!
