Best Comps in Las Vegas?
Airfareshusker_red2003 asked:
I just got back from Vegas & I wanted to tell where to get the best comps. My bf & I stayed at the Tropicana, an older hotel, but great for comps. Our 1st room was in the old section, but we got upgraded because there were some bugs in the room. We were then put into the newer section and got a suite without the added cost. Despite the bad start, I loved the new CLEAN room.
There’s a slot machine in front of the hotel where you get a free spin & my bf won 2 free ticks to the Folies Bergere show ($70 per ticket regular price). I played $20 on the penny machine for 4 hours& earned 2 ticks to the magic show AND Folies Bergere. Besides the free show ticks, we earned 2 free buffets(not the greatest but it was free) tshirts &hats, 4 decks of cards, & free $ to use on drinks &food. At the Monte Carlo they have 2 for 1 buffet coupons, the food was amazing. At the coke bottle they have 1/2 price ticks for shows. Let me know if you know any more deals. This is what I found of 2 days there.

Either you got amazingly lucky or you’re full of it. Hotels in Las Vegas are drastically reducing giveaways and comps these days. I live in this town and hear of this all the time.

Good for you. Actually that’s not unusual.
Comps - We play nickel/dime/quarter video poker most of the time and hardly ever pay for anything. Last year we were in LV for 55 nights, 42 nights were comped, we payed $314 for the other 13 because we chose to do so, and there is a reason that we sometimes choose to pay a low rate at one hotel rather than take a comp night from another.
Meals 2×3x55=330 meals(55 days) We had at least half of those meals comped. We were never turned down when we ask for a meal comp. We did use our points some of the time, but I don’t include those as discretionary comps.
Often times we have received show or event tickets but I don’t recall any from last year.
IMO - You need to know
What to play
How to play
Where to play
How to manage your bankroll
Each of the four is just as important as the next you can’t separate them.
We lost slightly over $1300 last year in Las Vegas. We keep a detailed record, every time we put money in a machine. What goes in and what comes out goes in the record so we know for a fact how much we are up or down. Last year was the first year in five that we had not come out ahead.
We take advantage of every free play and match play coupon we can get ahold of.
These are our two best sources of FP/MP coupons- but not the only ones
To keep up with the latest LV casino promotions
These are along the lines of, free play for new sign ups, etc
Comps - books - info
“Comp City” - Max Rubin
“The Frugal Gambler” - Jean Scott
If you learn how to play the game(comp) it’s amazing what you can get for very little play. You do not have to be a high roller.
My first trip to LV was in 1967.
We have been going to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 week or more at a time for over 20 years. We have learned to play the comp game pretty well(IMO) . If this trip was your first, :)) you learn quicker than we did, congratulations.
